Imagine Who You Could Become — and Aim Relentlessly at It
We are more than what we are right now. Each of us carries a sense that we could be more, that there is unrealized potential within us. Yet, too often that possibility is buried under poor health, accidents, mistakes, lack of discipline, or simply fear. The challenge — and the adventure — is to imagine who you might become, and then to walk toward it with focus and determination.
1. Who Are You — and Who Could You Be?
To ask "Who am I?" is already overwhelming. You are not just what you are today — you are also what you might become. That potential is vast, often hidden, sometimes frightening. But if you ignore it, you risk shrinking into something smaller than you were meant to be. The deeper question is: Who could you be if you gave everything you had?
2. When We Are Lucky
Sometimes, life throws us a spark — love, a passion for art or science, the joy of sport, or the pursuit of truth. We don't choose these moments; they choose us. They seize our attention and drag us forward. Try forcing yourself to care about something that leaves you cold — you'll see how poorly it works. But when something grips you, it can pull you further than you ever imagined.
3. Lanterns on a Dark Path
What captivates us lights the way. These moments of fascination are like lanterns along a dark road. You don't fully control them; they emerge from the unconscious, pointing to something worth living for. Interest is not just curiosity — it's a guide, a call, a signpost.
4. Keep Seeking
When you follow one of these lights, it leads to the next, and then the next. That is how growth happens — step by step, pursuit by pursuit. The journey is dangerous and uncertain, but it is also the essence of adventure. Even if you never fully reach your goal, you will be changed by the striving. Every struggle and every joy informs you, shapes you, transforms you.
5. Learning How to Act
We learn not only through words, but through imitation. A child "plays mother" not by copying every move exactly, but by stepping into the pattern of being a mother. She acts more than she can explain — just as all of us do. We embody possibilities before we can fully describe them. In this way, we practice becoming what we are not yet.
6. Map Out the Road Ahead
Set a goal — the best one you can currently imagine. Move toward it, stumbling if necessary. Pay attention to your mistakes, admit them, correct them. You need a map, because life is not random wandering. If you don't know where you are, or where you're going, uncertainty will drown you in chaos. The road forward may be rough, but you must chart it.
7. Voluntarily Confront What Stands in Your Way
With discipline and courage, you can confront what blocks your path. Over time, you may discover a story worth living — a story where you are both the traveler and the hero. Through effort, you can become the one who creates, sustains, and gives — not just for yourself, but for family, friends, and the wider world.
